For over 65 years since its building in 1959 by Don Primo, the mini golf course in Caseville, has stood as a cherished local icon. In 1960, ownership passed to Oliver Nelson and William Angelucie through a franchise agreement. In 1969, Ray and Jean Starkweather acquired the business, and their son, Jim Starkweather, dedicated 80-90 hours a week managing the course, supported by his parents on weekends. In 1971, on the adjacent property, Ray and Jean opened the Dairy Inn Restaurant, which played a special role in their son Jim's life as it was where he met his future wife, Joyce Murdoch. The Starkweathers expanded their offerings by introducing batting cages in 1973 and acquiring the Giant Slide from Ray Clancy. Over the years, they enhanced the facility with such additions as Bankshot Basketball in 1988, Bumper Boats in 1993, and Water Wars in 1994, leading to a rebranding as Putt-Putt Golf and Games.
Ownership changed in 2011, and over the next few years all aspects of the various businesses were combined to form "Key North Family Fun Center, LLC." For the summer of 2016, a brand-new Go Kart Track was added; at the time, it was the only track in Michigan to have a bridge. In the summer of 2020, plans for a new Adventure Golf to open the following season were unveiled. Unfortunately, insurance carriers refused to cover the Big Slide, and it had to be removed. The business faced a challenging period during the Covid-19 pandemic, operating at diminished capacity for nearly four years with constant construction delays due to material shortages and the supply chain crisis.
A new chapter began on the 30th of June in 2023 with the grand opening of Adventure Golf, breathing fresh life into the establishment.
Ahead of the 2024 reopening, significant upgrades were made, including new technology such as TV menu boards, a customer-friendly POS system, an enhanced sound system, a revamped food and beverage menu featuring Ashby's Super Premium Ice Cream and Dannon YoCream frozen yogurt, an extensive toppings bar, and brand new batting cages. Today, under the dedicated ownership of Charlotte Braun, this beloved destination continues to captivate vacationers, passers-by, and local residents alike. With ongoing renovations and the introduction of new attractions each year, the facility remains a must-visit spot in the Thumb for families and fun-seekers of all ages.
